History

In response to the need for more physicians to serve in rural areas, particularly in Northern Thailand, the third medical school of Thailand was established here in 1959.

1941

The Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, under the Ministry of Public Health, was founded

1959

The hospital was transferred to the University of Medical Sciences for establishing the Faculty of Medicine of the Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital

1964

Chiang Mai University (CMU) was founded in January 1964, under a Royal Charter granted by His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej. CMU was the first institution of higher education in the north, and the first provincial university in Thailand

1965

The Faculty of Medicine, Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital was transferred to Chiang Mai University
